Dress Your Windows

Custom creations like drapery, Roman shades, cornices, and valances all have one thing in common: They provide a backdrop for life’s little moments. You’ll see your window treatments in most family photos and in those impromptu snapshots taken during chaotic holidays.

You will close them to protect your family’s privacy and open them to let the light flood your space. Window coverings are an integral piece of decor.

When updating or adding new window treatments, we help our clients sort through decisions surrounding the function, fabric, and fashion of their custom designs.

1. Function

Just as driving a convertible in a North Carolina winter would be an odd choice, there are certain window treatment styles for certain situations and functions.

Roman shades, woven shades, and faux wood blinds work well in bathrooms, kitchens, and other high traffic or high moisture areas.

Drapery panels, mobile or stationary, work best in living and family rooms, bedrooms, and offices. They add a touch of luxury that can be further enhanced through fabric and hardware selections.

2. Fabric

Window treatment fabric varies in weight and thickness. Both of these factors direct how the fabric will hang, making certain fabrics ideal for specific types of window coverings.

Linen, muslin, and cotton blends are perfect for most window treatment styles, while velvet, silk, and chenille make great foundations for drapery specifically.

3. Fashion

Regardless of the window treatment style, function, or application you choose, you will also need to determine if your fabric will be a print, a solid, or a combination of the two.

You will also need to select hardware that fits your design aesthetic, meets the needs of your particular window treatment, and ensure that it is installed correctly.

We assist our clients with these choices to make updating their homes a truly enjoyable experience. If you’re looking to refresh your home in time for family events or holidays, you can count on us to make it happen.
